| By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, June 24 A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Hanumandhoka, recovered the head of deceased Khyati Shrestha, which the murderer had chopped down after kidnapping and killing her. The Police have recovered the head of the deceased Shrestha at decomposing state from Muddkhu of Goldhunga Village Development Committee-6 of Kathmandu district at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The murderer of Khyati, police said, had chopped her body into three parts. The skull of the deceased Shrestha was located some 150 ft. down at the inclined bushy land from the main road section, police said. The lower body parts like limbs were, however, were located at Satra Kilo road section of the Kabilash Village Development Committee-2 of Chitwan district on June 13. Similarly, the headless torso of the deceased was found at Chayashikot of Sainbu Village Development Committee-1 of Lalitpur district on June 21. Nava Raj Silwal, Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka said that police located the head of the deceased Shrestha as per information given by the alleged murderer Biren Shrestha. The police team took Biren Shrestha, the man alleged behind the heinous killing to Goldhunga from where the police recovered decomposed head of late Shrestha, a 19 student of grade-12 at Jubilant College and Research Centre. "After recovering all three separated body parts of Shrestha, police took all of them to the TU Teaching Hospital for a postmortem," SP Silwal said at a press conference today. The same police team on Wednesday morning seized a cash of Rs. 4, 50,000 that has been deposited by Biren at the Nepal Finance and Cooperative Society at Baneshwor of Kathmandu. Prior to this, police had already seized Rs. 85,000 in cash from his rented room on June 21. Likewise, police on Wednesday morning raided the house of Merina Shakya, an accomplice in Shrestha murder, at Yerahiti of Ichangu Narayan Village Development Committee-9 and seized Rs. 3, 50,000 in cash from her house. Police recovered the cash from a bookshelf situated at the study room of Shakya. Earlier, the police had also recovered another Rs. 16,010. The police have so far recovered a total of Rs. 901, 010 from Biren and Shakya. |

Victim: Khyati Shrestha.
Crime Scene: Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal.
Murderer: Biren Pradhan, a former science teacher of Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) School, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Accomplish: Merina Shakya, a student at Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) School, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Identification of suspect: Khyati's domestic help Ram.
Evidence Scenes: Multiple places throughout Nepal.
Khyati Shrestha, 19-year-old 12th grader of Jubilant College and Research Centre, Kathmandu, Nepal, receives a call from Merina Shakya, a 16 year old 10th grader, telling her that she has won a prize at about 8 am on June 5, 2009.
• She rushes to Putalisadak, Kathmandu as told and is received by Shakya at 1:00 pm.
• Khyati’s family calls her at 2:30 pm, but gets no response.
• Khyati’s family receives SMS from her cell phone in Hindi language, demanding Rs 1 million ransom that very day.
• Her family comes to know that she has been abducted.
• Her mother, Radha, pays ransom to Biren Pradhan in the India-Nepal border town of Kakarbhitta (approximately 610 kilometers from Kathmandu) on June 17, 2009. Pradhan tries to kidnap the domestic help, Ram, responsible for delivering the ransom, in fear of identification.
• Khyati is not released even after that. Later it was found that she was repeatedly raped and hacked to death within 24 hours of her abduction.
• Body parts are found on Mugling - Narayan Road (approximately 110 kilometers from Kathmandu) on June 13. Later they were ascertained to be that of Khyati.
• Police arrest Biren Pradhan, a native of Darjeeling, India, who was living in a rented house in Kushibu, and Shakya, his alleged accomplice on June 21, 2009.
• Other parts of Khyati’s body are recovered from Chhayasikot of Sainbu VDC in Lalitpur, approximately 20 kilometers from the heart of the capital Kathmandu on June 21, 2009.
• Her severed head is found from Raniban Forests, Balaju, approximately 15 kilometers from Kathmandu, on June 24, 2009.
A tragic end to a promising life, God help the poor soul rest in peace and give strength to the bereaved family.
